3 Quick Tips For Flying Overseas

Must-Have, TravelDee Dee Lantzy

Let’s be honest… travel can be a LOT. Here are some of our fav hacks.

1. When you board the plane set your watch and mind to the time you are headed to. Do a quick visualization of what you would be doing if you were in the time zone you are headed to.

2. After you eat your meal on the plane finish up a movie and fall asleep. Hydrate as much as possible. This one is huge.
3. Travel lite and be adaptable. Go into the experience knowing that not all will go to plan. If bumps along the way arise see where you can make the best of them. Sometimes snafus turn out to be magic.

A neck pillow can be a bit clunky to carry but can make all the difference when it comes to quality rest.

The girls are always ready to roll, nimble and zippy.

Bonus number 4: If a person near you has never traveled before and keeps their shade open while everyone else is sleeping... kindly bring it to the flight attendant’s attention and he will gladly go remind the person to close the shade.

Change of seasons

We are in the midst of ushering in a new season. When people ask what my favorite time of year is I can never fully land on just one. It is clear to me what I love most is all seasons. I love the closing of a period of time marked with the anticipation of what is to come. I love the rhythm that seasons bring to our lives. I appreciate the changing of the guard, a moment to reflect on what has just occurred and at the same time take a moment to set some new goals.

We have just harvested the last of the tomatoes and dahlias in the garden and are preparing everything for winter. I have taken a few moments over the past few days to quietly celebrate some tiny victories in the garden and write down somethings we need to improve on next spring and summer. We will be digging up the dahlia tubers in the next few days and storing them for next year. We have harvest seeds and will have a few for sale in early spring if you want to try some of our seeds harvested here on the micro mini homestead.

Here is a recipe a lovely neighbor shared with me this summer. It has been a go to for the girls as I can get them mixed and in the oven during the morning shuffle. No rise time. Quick bake. Power bagels for the win.

Power Bagels Recipe

I make these in the morning for the girls before school. This is a quick and easy recipe to make a bagel with more protein that doesn’t need any time to rise.

Makes 8 bagels

Preheat oven to 375

2 cups organic unbleached flour

2 cups organic greek yogurt

4 tsp baking powder

2 tsp salt

2 Tbs honey

Mix all dry ingredients. Mix honey into yogurt. Mix dry and yogurt together. Let sit for 10 mins. Roll into a ball. Divide into 8 pieces. Roll into bagel shape. Egg wash. Add topping, we sometimes use everything bagel sprinkle from Trader Joe’s. Bake for 20-25 mins.

Sugar's Andouille Dressing

RecipesDee Dee Lantzy

This recipe is a Thanksgiving staple for Sugar and I. Even on the years when we don’t prepare a full feast this is something we always have for nostalgia and left overs.

Ingredients:

6T Butter or Olive Oil

2.5 lbs Andouille sausage

5 Cups chopped onions

3 Cups celery

2.5 cups bell pepper

¼ cup garlic

3 cups bread crumbs

7 T hot sauce

Chicken broth or stock

Directions:

Ground andouille in food processor. (Food processor recommendation coming in the fit guide)

Chop onions, bell pepper and celery.

Cook andouille, until brown.

Set aside in a bowl. (approx. 6 mins)

Cook vegetables in the same pan with some of the butter. Cook until brown. (approx. 5 mins)

Add hot sauce

Add remaining butter.

Fold in ½ bread crumbs.

Then add the rest.

Depending on how you like your dressing you might want to add a bit of chicken broth or stock to the mix.

Bake on 350 for 20 mins.

Aspen Arts Festival

Dee Dee Lantzy

Thank you Aspen!

It’s always nice to get out of the studio and connect with people. I love hearing what resonates with different folks and why they are drawn to certain things more than others. I find the study of human behavior at these events absolutely fascinating. Honestly, maybe even more fascinating than the artwork itself. My collectors tend to be people cut from a similar cloth. I say I would love to have a dinner party where they all get to meet. I think they would all get along and have an immense amount in common. Art is interesting to me in that way. The way it is a connection point for a common thread.

I’m off to Avon, Colorado next week! I look forward to seeing you there!

Things have been busy over here in make magic happen land!  I have been having an absolute blast with my amazing client's.  Each and everyone of them is such a joy to work with.  They know what they want and are not afraid to let me loose after sharing specifics on dimensions, color palette and if they would like paper cranes or not.  I am therefore allowed the space to create and let the piece become itself.

If you are out there and have a space that is calling for some magic please give me a shout, email, instagram or text!! I am here ready to create with and for you.

Dee Dee Lantzy

It's spring here in Lafayette, Louisiana which means April showers bring May *more flowers.  The Big Easel is scheduled for Saturday April 14 from 9-5.  The town is a buzz in anticipation.  It truly is an amazing day for the entire Lafayette community, it is a testament to the unique personality of this wonderful city.  So many people come out to support all of the wildly talented local artists.  I feel blessed to be a part of the festivities.  All of the artists are looking ahead at the weather... 100% chance of rain is looking like the date will push to the next weekend... April 21!!  I am looking forward to sharing this body of work I have been creating... I look forward to seeing what a few of my favorite local artists have been up to and I am looking forward to seeing everyone who makes it out to play, support and celebrate the arts!!  To stay updated on when The Big Easel will actually take place follow me on Instagram @deedee.lantzy

What a wonderful way to define collaboration.  Working with Basin Arts, Owner Clare Cook and Curator Jacob Broussard was a complete and utter delight.  I want to thank each of you who came to visit, look and purchase at both the Opening and Closing Receptions, as well as anyone who passed through the gallery while the show was up.  I know that this is just the beginning of the magic to be made with Clare and the entire Basin Arts family.
